Storm Volleyball

Jill Waskom, Head Coach

Jill has been the Head Coach at Summit since 2007, except for the 2018 season when she took one year off. She is a 3 time Oregon Volleyball Coach of the Year recipient and has been league Coach of the Year on numerous occasions (we lost count). She has coached Summit to the State Championship match 5 different times, winning State Titles in 2011 (first in the history of Bend) and 2015. Her teams have finished in the top 5 at State every year but one.and she has coached 4 different players to being named Oregon Player of the Year. Prior to joining Summit, she was the head coach at Mountain View, where she led the Cougars to a state final in 2006 and numerous league championships. Jill is a Health & PE teacher at Summit, has won the Masters division at the Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament on several occasions, is a two-time overall champion of the Pacific Crest Half-Ironman Duathlon and played collegiality at Oregon State. She also loves her English Cream Golden Retriever more than her husband - and about the same as her 3 daughters.

Turner, Maker of Great Players, Varsity Coach

The legend of Turner has been passed down thru the ages via song and interpretive dance. It proceeds him the way lightning proceeds thunder. His passport requires no photo. Bigfoot once took a picture of him. Ghosts sit around the campfire telling Turner stories. He speaks French. Sharks have a week dedicated to him. Turner also coaches for NPJ, having helped coach the NPJ 18 ForeFront team to Top 25 finishes in the country 2 out of the last 3 years and he is currently the Commercial Lending Director for Craft3. And when not telling Jill how to run the varsity, Turner enjoys embracing the Dark Side and becoming proficient in his use of the Force.

Michelle O'Connell, Frosh Coach

This will be Michelle's first year as part of the Storm staff and we are SUPER excited to add someone of her quality. Born and raised in Idaho, she played collegiality at the College of Idaho and then coached club for both Club Idaho and the Idaho Crush. She was the head varsity coach at Vallivue High School from 2010 to 2015 and the head coach at Ridgevue High School from 2016 to 2018. A former winner of Idaho 5A Volleyball Coach of the Year award, Michelle's family includes two amazing kids, Lucy who is 8 and Berkeley who is 4, and her husband Sean works for Life Flight. They also have a black lab, Mowgli, who is for sale most days (if you have a black lab, you know what we mean!).
